Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship

Eligibility

MMUF supports undergraduate students who are committed to making contributions - through inclusive and exemplary scholarship and service - that promote perspectives that have been marginalized within the conventional scholarly record, and that promote the realization of a more socially just world by elevating accounts, interpretations, and narratives that expand present understandings of the human experience.

Eligibility Requirements

Students eligible to apply are second semester sophomores Brown, who:

  • Are concentrating in fields in the humanities and related disciplines. STEM students are not eligible for MMUF.
  • Are intending on pursuing independent research during their junior and senior years within their concentration.
  • Are interested in graduate school, specifically, doctoral (PhD) studies in fields of the humanities and humanistic social sciences, in Mellon designated fields.
  • Are U.S. Citizens, permanent residents, recipients of DACA, and undocumented students. International students are not eligible for Mellon grant-funded opportunities.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the goals of MMUF:
    • to promote diverse perspectives and advance the value of multivocality in the humanities and related disciplines
    • to address the consequences of racial disparities in the educational system and society at large

All students who met the above criteria are eligible to apply. Applications are particularly encouraged from students who are African Americans/of African heritage, LatinX, Native Americans, as well as those from marginalized backgrounds (first generation college student, low-income, etc.).
